The Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa
What to expect: Built in 1918 as an executive retreat, the Wigwam retains its original Western character and part of the original structure. Continuing renovation has created a resort for active families, couples, business travelers, and girlfriend getaways. The lobby art includes a Remington bronze near the fireplace. The Sun Lounge, the original reception area, has rock walls, leather couches, and historic photos of the old Wigwam.
Amenity highlights: Guests can golf on three 18-hole championship courses (surcharge), including the Gold Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and ranked as one of the nation's best by Golf Magazine. The tennis program features a 350-seat stadium, lighted courts, and private or group lessons. The larger of two pools includes private cabanas and a waterslide, and presents "dive in" movies that guests watch from the water or patio. The resort’s spa features Swedish massage, reflexology, and skin treatments such as an apricot body scrub.
Insider tip: The fireplace in the Sun Lounge, a quiet room off the main lobby that was once the reception area, has walls made from packed earth tempered with horsehair. The overhead light fixture is handcrafted from clay pots, old wood, and leather. The walls feature vintage photos from the days when Wigwam guests were assigned their own horses. The main lobby chandelier is made from moose horns.
